About

The Institute of Social Welfare Action (ISWA) is a grassroots non-governmental organization dedicated to building inclusive and sustainable futures through community-led development.

Our Mission

We exist to support rural communities in shaping their own development pathways by promoting climate-smart agriculture, strengthening local entrepreneurship, and enabling access to skills, knowledge, and markets. We strive to ensure that every individual, regardless of background, has the opportunity to earn with dignity, adapt to changing environments, and participate fully in economic and social life.

Vision

To foster an ecosystem where rural communities, especially smallholders, women, and youth, are empowered to lead climate-resilient lives, build thriving local enterprises, and secure sustainable livelihoods with dignity. ISWA acts as an enabler of enterprise ecosystems, helping communities and institutions unlock economic opportunities that are sustainable, inclusive, and driven by local strengths.

Our Belief

At ISWA, we believe that sustainable development is not something that can be delivered, it must be co-created with the people. Our work is driven by the conviction that marginalised communities, no matter how poor or remote, possess the knowledge, resilience, and capability to lead their own transformation. What they often lack is access to opportunities, information, networks, and systems that are meant to serve them.

About Us

The Institute of Social Welfare Action (ISWA) is a grassroots, non-governmental organization committed to enabling sustainable and inclusive development through community-driven approaches. ISWA is a part of the Ecobasket group, working in synergy with like-minded professionals and institutions to design and deliver impactful, ground-level interventions. Currently active in South Gujarat, ISWA works with marginalized rural and tribal populations to strengthen their capacities in the areas of agriculture and climate change, enterprise and skill development, and livelihood enhancement.
Since its inception, ISWA has directly impacted the lives of over 2 lakh individuals, with 100% of the beneficiary households belonging to socially and economically marginalized communities. Women make up more than 60% of ISWA’s outreach, forming the backbone of its development efforts. ISWA empowers communities to take charge of their futures by adopting climate-resilient agricultural practices, building market-responsive local enterprises, and enhancing income opportunities through practical skill-building and access to resources. Its model blends traditional knowledge with modern tools, market insights, and institutional linkages to ensure lasting impact.

Our Approach to Development

Organizing rural communities into self-reliant, community-based institutions forms the backbone of our development approach. We work closely with marginalized households, particularly women and youth, to strengthen both collective platforms (like SHGs and producer groups) and individual micro-enterprises, enabling economic and social empowerment from the ground up. Our interventions are designed to enhance livelihoods, promote climate-resilient agriculture, and foster entrepreneurship and skill development as pathways to long-term resilience. These efforts are grounded in local contexts and guided by the belief that sustainable development must be community-led, inclusive, and adaptive to evolving rural realities. We integrate gender inclusion and community leadership across all programs, ensuring that women are not just beneficiaries but active decision-makers and change agents. Recognizing the complexity of rural development, we bring together the necessary human, financial, and technological resources to support community-driven solutions. ISWA provides direct field-level professional support, helping communities to assess their needs, plan context-appropriate interventions, and access markets, services, and institutions. Our model emphasizes participatory planning, continuous learning, and building systems that remain functional and relevant even after project cycles end. By combining local wisdom with modern tools, and field experience with institutional partnerships, ISWA aims to nurture ecosystems where rural communities can thrive with dignity, stability, and agency.
